In short. BC, Alberta, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories stayed on daylight time on Sunday. If your clock shows the same time it did Saturday, it’s right. BC is UTC−7, Alberta and the NWT are UTC−6, and Manitoba is UTC−5, all year from now on.
Check the right time for your city
If your phone or computer changed anyway
- Turn on automatic date, time and time zone, install any pending updates, and restart. That’s what Bell and the Canadian Telecommunications Association recommend.
- Android: Google says the update that stops the fall-back “involves a long chain of updates” and may not reach every phone in time. If yours fell back, follow the Android fix.
- Still wrong? Set the time zone by hand. Our guide has the right city to pick for each province: fix your clock.
Why does my iPhone say Creston?
Because Creston has been on BC’s new time for decades. Creston, in the Kootenays, never changed its clocks. It has sat at UTC−7 all year, and Apple’s time zone list labels it “Mountain Standard Time”. Since Nov 1, UTC−7 all year is exactly what the rest of BC uses, so some iPhones with Set Automatically on now show Creston, or MST, as their time zone.
The time is right. Leave it. Apple hasn’t said why some phones pick Creston instead of Vancouver, and a future iOS update may switch the label back. Either way, the clock shows BC time.
If you’d rather see Vancouver, make sure iOS is up to date and restart. If it still says Creston, that’s fine. Don’t turn Set Automatically off just to change the name. More in the iPhone guide.
Clocks that may have fallen back by themselves
“Atomic” wall clocks, older car clocks that set themselves, and some cable boxes and smart displays follow US time signals or old rules. Set them back an hour and turn off automatic daylight saving where you can. Which clocks change on their own.
Smart home routines an hour late?
If your lights or an Alexa routine ran an hour late, something fell back with the US. Ask your speaker the time. If it’s off, change the Echo’s time zone in the Alexa app (Creston or Phoenix for BC, Regina for Alberta). If the speaker’s right, change the time zone in the lights’ own app. Don’t just move the routine an hour earlier. Full steps.
Your meetings this week
- Meetings you organized in the old “Pacific Time (US & Canada)” or “Mountain Time (US & Canada)” zone now land an hour late. Only the organizer can fix them.
- Meetings with Toronto, Seattle or New York moved an hour for you. That’s correct. They stay put for the organizer.
- Using new Outlook for Mac or iPhone and a meeting looks an hour off? Check it in Outlook on the web before changing anything.
Check your calendar for meetings an hour off
It finds every affected meeting in about a minute, and nothing is uploaded. How to fix them.
What happens next
Nothing, for your clocks. On March 14, 2027 the places that fell back spring forward and catch up, so the gaps with Seattle, Denver and Chicago close again. 2027 dates.
FAQ
Why does my iPhone say Creston time?
Creston, BC has used UTC−7 all year for decades, which is now BC’s time all year. Some iPhones show Creston or “Mountain Standard Time” as the time zone since Nov 1, 2026. The time shown is correct.
Is my phone wrong if it says Mountain Standard Time in BC?
No. Mountain Standard Time is UTC−7, the same as BC’s new Pacific time all year.
My Android phone fell back an hour. What do I do?
Google says the update that stops the fall-back may not reach every phone in time. Install any pending updates and restart, then check that Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone are on. If it’s still an hour behind, set the time zone by hand.
Why is my meeting with Seattle an hour later?
Seattle fell back to UTC−8 and BC didn’t. A 10 AM Seattle meeting is now 11 AM in Vancouver until March 14, 2027.
Will my clocks change in March?
Not in BC, Alberta, Manitoba or the NWT. They stay on the same time all year from now on.
