What does “PT” mean now? TV, game and launch times in BC, Alberta and Manitoba after Nov 1

Why “PT”, “MT” and “CT” times on TV schedules, game listings, streaming releases, product launches and webinars are an hour off in BC, Alberta and Manitoba from Nov 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, and a quick conversion table.

The short version. From Sunday, Nov 1, 2026 until Sunday, March 14, 2027, add one hour to any US-style time zone label:

  • BC: “PT” times are one hour later for you. 9 PM PT is 10 PM in Vancouver.
  • Alberta and the NWT: “MT” times are one hour later. 7 PM MT is 8 PM in Calgary.
  • Manitoba: “CT” times are one hour later. 8 PM CT is 9 PM in Winnipeg.

From March 14 to November, they match again. If a schedule shows your own local time, it’s already right.

Why “PT” stopped meaning BC time

For decades, “PT” on a TV listing, a game schedule or a launch announcement meant the same thing in Vancouver as it did in Seattle and Los Angeles. That’s no longer true for half the year.

On Nov 1, 2026, the US falls back an hour and BC doesn’t. BC stays at UTC−7 all year, which the province calls Pacific time (PCT). US Pacific Time drops to UTC−8 until March 14. So from November to March, every “PT” time on a US schedule happens an hour later on BC clocks. Alberta has the same gap with US Mountain Time (MT), and Manitoba with US Central Time (CT). The full story is in why BC and Alberta won’t fall back.

The easy rule in winter: BC is 2 hours behind Eastern, Alberta is 1 hour behind, and Manitoba matches Eastern. From March 14 to November, BC is 3 hours behind Eastern, Alberta 2 and Manitoba 1, and PT, MT and CT match BC, Alberta and Manitoba again. For any other time, use the PST to EST converter or the time zone cheat sheet.

TV and live sports

Hockey season is where most people will notice. A national broadcast listed as “7 PM ET / 4 PM PT” is 5 PM in Vancouver from Nov 1, not 4 PM. The Eastern time is the reliable one: in winter, BC is now 2 hours behind Eastern, not 3.

Netflix, streaming and new releases

Many streaming services drop new episodes at a fixed US time. Netflix, for example, usually releases new shows at midnight Pacific Time. From Nov 1 to March 14 that’s 1 AM in BC and 2 AM in Alberta, an hour later than you’re used to. Album drops, game launches and ticket sales announced for “9 AM PT” work the same way: 10 AM in Vancouver.

Webinars, product launches and work meetings

US companies announce keynotes, launches and webinars in PT. “Join us at 10 AM PT” is 11 AM in Vancouver and noon in Calgary this winter. If you add the event to your calendar from the invite, your calendar will usually convert it correctly. It’s the times you read and copy down by hand that catch people out.

Recurring work meetings are a separate problem. Meetings booked in the old “Pacific Time (US & Canada)” time zone will move an hour later on Nov 1. Our free calendar check finds every one, and this guide explains how to fix them.

How to tell which “PT” a schedule means

Questions

What does PT mean in BC after November 1, 2026?

On most schedules, PT means US Pacific Time, which is Seattle and Los Angeles time. From Nov 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027 that’s UTC−8, while BC stays at UTC−7, so add one hour. 9 PM PT is 10 PM in Vancouver. From March 14 to November, PT and BC time are the same again.

Is BC still on Pacific Time?

BC calls its new all-year time Pacific time (PCT), but it no longer matches US Pacific Time in winter. BC is UTC−7 all year. US Pacific Time is UTC−8 in winter and UTC−7 in summer.

What time is a 7 PM ET game in Vancouver now?

5 PM in Vancouver from Nov 1 to March 14, because Eastern is UTC−5 and BC stays at UTC−7, a 2-hour gap. From March 14 to November it’s 4 PM, a 3-hour gap, the way it used to be all year.

What does MT mean for Alberta after the time change?

MT usually means US Mountain Time, as in Denver. From Nov 1 to March 14 it’s UTC−7 while Alberta stays at UTC−6, so add one hour: 7 PM MT is 8 PM in Calgary and Edmonton. In summer they match.

What does CT mean for Manitoba after the time change?

CT usually means US Central Time, as in Chicago. From Nov 1 to March 14 it’s UTC−6 while Manitoba stays at UTC−5, so add one hour: 8 PM CT is 9 PM in Winnipeg. In summer they match.

What time do new Netflix shows come out in BC now?

Netflix usually releases new shows at midnight Pacific Time. From Nov 1 to March 14 that’s 1 AM in BC and 2 AM in Alberta. In summer it’s back to midnight in BC.

Do Canadian TV schedules use the new BC time?

Many Canadian broadcasters and apps list times in your own local time, which will already be right. The ones to watch are US schedules, press releases and launch announcements that say “PT”, “MT” or “CT”, because those follow US time.
